Emily Sweeney
We've been busy and productive in the past year! Join us to celebrate our recent successes and hear our
plans for the upcoming year. We'll elect members to our Board of Directors and honor our volunteers.
While our efforts are all about positive change and the good that comes when
people work together, sometimes it's worth reflecting on
where we've been. Award-winning journalist Emily Sweeney,
author of the new book Boston Organized Crime,
will take us on an eye-opening journey of the area's darker
past through Boston's underworld, from the bootlegging days
of Prohibition to the gangland wars of the 1960s.
Emily Sweeney has been a staff writer at the Boston Globe since 2001 and as a Dorchester native, her
knowledge of the city runs deep. She researched and wrote "Greatest Hits: A Mob Tour of Boston" for Boston.com
and was also featured as a guest commentator in "Stranger Than Fiction: The True Story of Whitey Bulger,
Southie, and The Departed," a documentary film about organized crime in South Boston. She was born at St.
Margaret's, went to school at St. Ambrose, and still remains a true Dot Rat at heart.
